There Isn't One BCC Journey

The easiest way to understand BCC is not as a list of services, but as a journey.

It might begin with a regular holiday stay.

Or because a family is moving overseas.

Or because a cat needs somewhere to stay while their owner deals with a difficult situation.

Or because three rescued cats simply cannot join a household that already has five.

The journey changes according to the cat and the circumstances.

Before the stay

We start by understanding the cat.

Their normal food, routine, behaviour, medication, and any special needs help us build a picture of what is normal for them.

That's where baseline becomes useful.

Knowing what is normal gives us something to compare with when the cat arrives in a new environment.

Arrival

The cat enters the BCC environment.

We don't expect them to immediately behave as though they have always lived here.

We observe.

We give them time.

We let them settle.

Every cat responds differently to a new environment, so there isn't a fixed timetable for how a stay should begin.

During the stay

The everyday work continues:

Food. Water. Litter. Hygiene. Cleaning. Observation.

And sometimes something else is needed.

Perhaps medication.

Perhaps grooming.

Perhaps more individual attention.

Perhaps a visit to the veterinarian.

Perhaps preparation for an international journey.

There isn't one script for every cat.

What happens during a stay depends on what the cat needs and what their circumstances require.

The stories behind the stays

Some of the best ways to understand BCC are through the cats who have stayed with us.

Lady & Taco — two years at BCC

Lady and Taco's parents needed to move to Dubai.

Transporting the cats would have taken approximately six months to go and another six months to return.

So instead of putting the cats through that journey twice, the decision was made for them to stay at BCC.

They stayed for two years.

What started as a boarding arrangement became their temporary home while their family was away.

Ginger — becoming a permanent resident

After COVID, Ginger's parent became much busier.

At the same time, the family's daughter developed an allergy to cat fur.

The situation at home changed.

Ginger eventually became a permanent resident at BCC.

Pesek — a senior cat who needed somewhere to stay

Pesek is a senior cat with significant needs.

Her parent moved to a small island far away, where there was no suitable source of care for Pesek.

Rather than leave her without an appropriate place to stay, the decision was made for Pesek to remain at BCC as a permanent resident.

Neo, Nala & Nono — three foster cats

Neo, Nala, and Nono were rescued by someone who already had five cats.

Adding three more cats to that household would have created a difficult situation.

So the three foster cats stayed at BCC instead.

Sometimes the best solution isn't about finding the perfect home immediately.

Sometimes it is about creating a place for a cat to stay while the next solution is being found.

What happens next?

There is no single BCC journey to follow.

Some cats stay for a few days.

Some stay for months.

Some stay much longer.

Some come for grooming or transport as part of their stay.

And sometimes circumstances change while they are here.

We simply continue from where the cat is.

If you're not sure what your cat needs, you don't have to figure everything out before contacting us.

Tell us about your cat, what is happening, and what you are trying to arrange.

We'll help you work out the next step.
